The young actor was cast in his first ABC TV show, Castle after which he appeared on the hit Fox show – New Girl which starred Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield. He was then cast in the Nickelodeon sitcom – Wendell & Vinnie for a small role. Marcus wasn’t cast in his first major role until he was fourteen (which may be early for many people) when he was cast Blackish.
Being an actor in a major role on a major network was a big deal and a career turning point for the actor. He actually beat out Anthony Anderson’s current son, Nathan, to play the son of Anthony Anderson’s character. To be honest, it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role of Junior. He auditioned for the role when she was just 13, and the pilot was filmed a year later. He explains that auditioning for the role was a little easier for him since he identified strongly with the character he was called upon to play.
For the role of Junior, he won the “NAACP ImageAward for Outstanding Performance by a Young Person in 2016. Other actors to have won this prestigious award include Denzel Washinton, LeVar Burton, Raven-Symoné, Keke Palmer and Lynn Whitfield.
